It’s Monday again, which means it’s time for another installment of Eating Styles. The other day, I was at the grocery store buying chips and I found myself staring up at a wall of Doritos firmly divided into two solid-color camps: red and blue.

It got me thinking about how Doritos has accomplish what few brands ever manage to do: establish two flavors with relatively equal market pull. Because they are so difficult to choose between, many customers end up purchasing both Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch, ensuring Doritos a permanent place in the chip market.

But what if you had to pick one? If you were forced to choose between that wall of red and blue, which side would you opt for? Or would you go for one of the more obscure flavors, such as Late Night Taco or Spicy Sweet Chili? Vote for your favorite option below, and explain in the comments.

There used to be one called Salsa Verde (it was kind of a jalapeno and cilantro flavor) that was mainstream for a while, and then I could find it in Mexican groceries, but, alas, not for many years now. I would pick that over Nacho any day.

What do you call the Doritos flavor chips that aren’t yours?

Salsa Verde – @ Peggasus they’re still available on the west coast (sadly, I don’t live there anymore) and they are absolutely the best Doritos ever.

I was in California earlier this year and brought 3 bags back with me.

My vote is for the flavor that has the least powdered fake flavor..Cool Ranch. Give me a plain, salted, stone ground tortilla chip and I’ll dip it for flavor!

Am I the only person who liked the late night cheeseburger doritos? God I destroyed those.

many good flavors, including the hard to find TACO, but I’m kind of surprised that the vote is so close.

Cool Ranch for this guy here… However I do find myself having a hard time picking between them and Taco.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the Sour Cream & Onion chips they recently had in limited release, though I preferred them in their original incarnation Sonic Sour Cream from about 10 years ago.

The Midnight series was OK, tacos took the cake and cheeseburger just tasted too much like ketchup.

Anyone out there ever tried their Plain Tortilla flavor?
