Eating Styles: Potato Chip Flavor Edition! Sam October 22, 2012 Eating Styles, Snacks 7 Comments It’s Monday, which means it’s time for another Eating Styles poll. A few weeks ago, we asked you about your preferred Doritos flavor. Now we want to know: what is your favorite potato chip flavor? I thought about this the other day because I had salt and vinegar chips for the first time since I was a child. When I tried them back then, I hated them and thought they tasted like something you would wash out a toilet with. But when I tried them this time around, I found I loved that astringency (even though they raped and pillaged my mouth). It’s part of getting older – your taste buds get duller, so you start to like foods you didn’t like as a kid because you either can’t taste the bad parts or, as with the salt and vinegar chips, they jolt your taste buds awake. But salt and vinegar isn’t the only potato chip flavor out there. There are the classics: plain potato chip, barbecue and sour cream & onion. Then there are the more experimental flavors such as dill pickle and buffalo wings. When you’re standing in front of a wall of Lay’s or Kettle chips, which bag do you go for? Vote for your favorite potato chip flavor below and explain in the comments. Reply Thom October 23rd, 2012 Salt & Pepper chips, there are so many brands now… Reply Not-so-famous Dave October 23rd, 2012 Other……I’m not a fan of fake powdered flavor on any kind of chip. Sea Salt and vinegar is good, cracked pepper is good. Kettle cooked is by far better than conventional chips. Texture! Reply Teddy Izzo November 17th, 2012 Although I share Not-so-famous- Dave’s sentiment that natural flavor is far superior to those that are chemically altered to taste like something deceivingly delicious, I must say that I have always loved sour cream and onion flavor. Barbecue is still alright but not as good as the former. And then I love just about anything cheese flavored. I tolerate sea salt and vinegar if it is what’s being eaten by others in the room. But all that aside, Kettle Brand chips are quite possibly, the best chips store bought chips out there. Reply Teddy Izzo November 17th, 2012 p.s. if there hasn’t been a poll on Sun Chip flavor (which is strictly a multigrain chip containing no potato) there needs to be.
