The history behind this sandwich is so diverse that one may never know exactly where or who brought this delightful creation to life. Over the years there have been many adaptations of the original sandwich, seasoning have changed and some say only onions are traditional and tomato sauce is used in place of tomato ketchup. Well, I think however the sandwich is made with or without peppers as long as it is sloppy! That is the key here folks, “Sloppy” Joe! This is a pick it up with your hands and lick your fingers kinda sammich, forks and knifes don’t do it justice. It is easy to make this sloppy joe recipe it in a slow cooker for a richer taste and saucer consistency. Here’s how to do it… Slow Cooker Sloppy Joe Recipe 2014-06-01 17:42:14 Serves 6 A slow cooker sloppy joe recipe that is both easy and delicious. Write a review Save Recipe Print Prep Time 15 min Cook Time 2 hr Total Time 2 hr 15 min Prep Time 15 min Cook Time 2 hr Total Time 2 hr 15 min Ingredients 2 pounds 93% lean ground beef 1 tablespoon cider vinegar 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon sugar 1 tablespoon ground pepper 1 tablespoon garlic powder 1 large onion, diced 1 green bell pepper, diced 20 oz. tomato ketchup 6 dinner rolls, toasted Instructions In a skillet or large dutch oven brown ground beef until there is no visible pink, strain meat to remove excess fat and set aside. While beef is cooking dice the onion and bell pepper. (see diagram below on how to cut bell pepper to maximize product and reduce waste.) Add the following ingredients to your slow cooker; drained ground beef, diced onion, bell pepper, ketchup, vinegar, Worcestershire, salt, sugar, ground pepper and garlic powder. Mix ingredients in slow cooker until fully incorporated. Cover and turn slow cooker on low for 4 hours, or high for 2 hours. Serve sloppy joe mixture over toasted dinner rolls and enjoy.
