I’m a big bacon fan and for me almost anything is better with bacon. So when I was approached by The Bacon Jams company to try their products I was super excited. Who wouldn’t want to try spreadable bacon? But I never tried bacon jam before and I didn’t know what to expect. So, I googled a little and I found out that bacon jam is sweet and savory slow cooked relish. The Bacon Jams company is producing three standard flavors (original , red chile & garlic and black pepper ) and from time to time they have limited editions like maple habanero, chocolate cherry and pineapple pepper. They all can be purchased from their site and they all come in 8 oz jars. When I received my jams, I couldn’t help but notice how cute is company logo. Pig jamming makes me smile every time I open the jar. Does Bacon Jam taste good? You probably wonder what does bacon jam taste like? Can you imagine what will you get if you marry sweet caramelized onion jam and smoky bacon? Well, something like that but even better. 🙂 I tried three flavors: original, black pepper and red chile & garlic. They are all super tasty, but my personal favorite is red chile and garlic. Yes, I know, I’m garlic and chili addict. How to use bacon jam? You can use bacon jam anyway you like. If you need ideas visit recipe section on The Bacon jams site or use you imagination. You can spread it on a toast, spice up you omelet, add some in your favorite meatloaf … Possibilities are endless. If you like sweet and savory combinations, you need to try these jams. For me, bacon jams are definitely the new must-have condiments. I decided to play with a dough and make some super cute piggies stuffed with bacon jam and chorizo. They were a huge hit with my family. Everyone loved them. The stuffing was so delicious, the buns were soft and tasty. The adults loved them, kids adored them and their look made everyone smiles. Next time you receive an invite for a potluck or go on a picnic, make a double batch and bring the little piggies with you. You will be the baker of the year, I guarantee you. How to make cute little piggies? These little piggies are so easy to make. First, you need to make a dough. Mix the flour and yeast. Place them in a mixer with the dough hook attachment. Add the warm water, salt and soft butter and mix for 2-3 minutes or until it forms a soft ball. Cover the bowl with a plastic wrap and place it in a warm place. Let the dough rise until it is double in size, then transfer it on a lightly floured surface. Punch it and knead the dough for a minute, Divide the dough into 11 balls. Flatten a ball of dough into your palm to make 4 inch round. Spoon in the middle 1 tsp of bacon jam and place ½ inch thick slice of chorizo. Fold the dough to make a ball and gently pinch the edges to close the ball. With your hands roll it gently to make the perfect ball. Place it on a baking tray lined with silicone baking mat. Repeat until 10 balls of dough are used. Use remaining ball of dough to make ears, noses and tales for the piggies. To make the noses, roll the dough out to 1/16-inch thick. Cut out 10 1/2 inch circles. With egg wash glue them to the buns and secure them with 2 toothpicks. Take a small amount of dough and shape it with your index finger and thumb, to make it look like an ear. Glue the ears with egg wash to the bun. Use remaining dough to make curly tails and glue them too. Use peppercorns to make eyes. Brush the piggies with egg wash. Bake for 15 -20 minutes or until golden. Remove from oven and let cool completely. Enjoy!
