Shake Shack goes by the genuine belief that the ideal fast food meal should be simple, fresh, and made from high quality ingredients, with all their Angus beef 100% natural with no antibiotics added. And last but not least, fast food should be relaxed and fun. Because really, what’s the point of a burger if you’re not enjoying it. Well, they have definitely accomplished their goal and beyond, famously known today as one of the fast food joints that serves the best burgers, hot dogs, frozen custard, and shakes. So how did this joint start shaking up America? It all started with a simple food cart in New York City’s Madison Square Park. Although it’s obvious that New York City’s known for many things, street food and food carts has got to be one of its main selling points. I still remember roaming down the streets of the metropolitan city and just seeing carts and carts lined up with tasty goodies. It’s quite hard to believe that back in the day, Shake Shack was just merely one of these carts. With its delicious selection of New York-style hamburgers, it of course didn’t stay a food cart for long. Eventually, this burger joint expanded into a stand in Madison Square Park, with hungry fans lining up daily for three summers in a row. The more happy customers there were, the more Shake Shack’s menu expanded, eventually throwing in hotdogs, fries, custard, and classic milkshakes into the mix. Today, this fast food restaurant chain has already shaken up the world, with locations expanding throughout the U.S. and a growing international presence. It recently made its way to Chicago, seeing a Shake Shack in my hometown, it’s no surprise that I was one of the many hungry burger enthusiasts waiting in line. People always say that the original is always the best. I guess in Shake Shack’s case, their Shack Burger certainly doesn’t fall short. This tasty original consists of a hearty piece of medium rare Angus beef layered between pieces of sweet potato bread and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and their classic special Shack sauce. Although the Shack Burger got my taste buds going, my all-time favorite was definitely the Shroom Burger. Yes, its’ true that I’m an ex vegetarian myself, but that doesn’t mean that I’m biased, this burger is delicious whether you’re a carnivore or not. Layered between two pieces of sweet bread is a thick and crispy piece of Portobello mushroom, smothered in melted Muenster and cheddar cheese, and topped with tomatoes, lettuce, and the classic Shack sauce. Perhaps the other thing that Shake Shack’s known for besides their burgers, is their frozen custard. The Shack’s special version of frozen custard is known as “concretes”, which is basically dense frozen custard ice cream blended with mixed ingredients. I love their “Shack Attack”, chocolate custard mixed with fudge sauce, chocolate truffles, cookie dough, black salt caramel chocolate, and topped with chocolate sprinkles, a chocolate attack on your taste buds. With their fun and relaxed vibe, fresh quality food, and fast service, Shake Shack is definitely continuing to shake up appetites around the globe, one place at a time. After a few hearty bites, I’m certainly glad that Chicago has joined the club. Shake Shack 66 E. Ohio Street Chicago, IL.
